Isabel Bader Theatre
Victoria University, formerly Victoria College, is part of the campus of the University of Toronto and is located adjacent to the Provincial Legislature and the Royal Ontario Museum.
Through the generosity of the Bader Family, the University undertook to construct a theatre on a high visibility site in its campus core that was both small in area and had restrictions in height and massing. While the goal was to build a theatre for academic purposes, the building also needed to include a floor of offices.
The Isabel Bader Theatre is a compact and elegant building which houses a 508 seat theatre with a single balcony and side galleries. Due to height restrictions on the site, the fly tower is less than full height and the rigging system has been designed to compensate.
The Isabel Bader Theatre is also located in the middle of the area where the Toronto International Film Festival occurs every September and through the generosity of the Academy Award winning film director, Norman Jewison, the theatre was fitted out as a Festival venue with 35 mm film projection.
