Imperial Oil Centre for the Performing Arts

Sarnia Little Theatre is the oldest community theatre in Ontario. For many years it operated out of production and rehearsal facilities which it owned, and performed at the Sarnia Library Theatre.

In 1994, the City took possession of the former Capitol Theatre cinema and turned it over to the Sarnia Little Theatre to renovate and return to full use as a performing arts centre whose presence
would contribute to downtown revitalization.

The renovation consisted of retaining and preserving the historic facade and lobbies and constructing a new 600 seat theatre in the shell of the original building. A major improvement was the addition of a 150 seat balcony.
